You want to try it before paying

Klack has no free trial; its FAQ suggests buying and asking for a refund within 14 days. Teclo gives you the full app for 7 days and Klakk for 3. Kiiwi and Teclo also play their packs in the browser.

Your Mac runs macOS 13 or 14

Klack’s App Store version needs macOS 15. Teclo, Keeby and Kachunk list macOS 13 or later; Kiiwi and Klakk need 14.

You got bored of the switches

More switch sets is what Klack’s own developer calls “the most requested addition”, and “klack sounds are nice but i got bored of them fast” is a typical comment. Klack has 7 sets. Kiiwi lists 36 keyboard packs, Kachunk 27 and the open-source Thock 23. Teclo has 16, nine of them keyboards and seven that are not.

You want a typewriter, or something that isn’t a keyboard

Klack ships no typewriter. Teclo’s Typewriter rings a bell on Return; Kachunk records real typewriters; KeyBell and Tacque list typewriter sounds too. For sounds that are not keyboards at all, Teclo has Rain, Marimba, Pixel, Bubble and Laser.

You want it free

The open-source Thock and Mechvibes are free; Tacque is free with a tip. See free keyboard sound apps for Mac for what each one’s “free” means.

You want the sound to stop in meetings

Klack already has sleep triggers. If that is why you use it, check that an alternative has the same before you switch: Kachunk and Tacque do; Teclo does not yet.
