A desktop pet for your Mac that reacts to your typing
Teclo's pet is a keycap with a face that sits on top of your windows and follows how fast you type. It sleeps until your first key, cheers up as you speed up and catches fire when you keep the pace. It comes with Teclo, a menu bar app that plays a keyboard sound for every key you press.

How it reacts
The pet's mood follows your typing speed, smoothed over the last few seconds. Content, Happy and Excited come as soon as you reach their speed. The four power-ups after them are earned: each needs its speed held for a while, starting from the level below. Slow down and it steps back one level at a time, after a short grace.
| Mood | From | Held for |
|---|---|---|
| Content | 20 WPM | at once |
| Happy | 40 WPM | at once |
| Excited | 50 WPM | at once |
| On fire | 50 WPM | 4 seconds |
| Charged | 55 WPM | 8 seconds |
| Hero | 60 WPM | 12 seconds |
| Legend | 70 WPM | 20 seconds |
On top of the mood come short reactions: a burst when you press Return, a combo at 100, 250, 500 keys without a long pause and every 1,000 after, a cool-down when a power-up is lost, and a yawn 6 seconds before it falls asleep, 1 minute after your last key.
Make it yours
Click the pet to open its page. Pick one of eight presets, press Randomize, or set each part: keycap and accent colours, eyes, mouth, a hat, cheeks, brows, outline, size and a name tag. Since Teclo 1.0.8 the pet can also be a picture of your own, such as a photo of your cat, a logo or a drawing, and the picture wears the same moods and power-ups. Drag the pet anywhere on screen.
Hide it, or keep it quieter
On the pet's page, choose Hidden next to Show to put it away; the sounds keep playing. Under Powers, untick On fire, Charged, Hero or Legend and the pet stops at the highest level you left ticked. Under Extras, untick Return burst, Combo, Cool-down or Yawn. The eye next to each one previews it.
How it compares with other desktop pets
Teclo's pet is part of a keyboard sound app, so it suits you if you want typing sounds too; it is not free, and it does nothing but follow your typing. Bongo Cat reacts to every key and click and is free, Desktop Goose is a prank pet that ignores your work, Shimeji walk and climb along your windows, and AgentPet follows AI coding agents. Desktop pets for your Mac sets them side by side with their prices and sources.
Questions
Is there a desktop pet for Mac that reacts to typing?
Yes. Teclo's keycap pet follows your typing speed in words per minute: it gets happier as you speed up and powers up when you keep a fast pace. It comes with Teclo, a menu bar app that also plays a keyboard sound for every key.
Does the pet see what I type?
No. Teclo needs the Input Monitoring permission to notice key presses in other apps, but it hears which key went down, not the text, and nothing you type leaves your Mac.
Can I use my own picture as the pet?
Yes, since Teclo 1.0.8. Click the pet, then Picture… next to Pet, and choose a PNG, JPEG or HEIC. The picture keeps the moods and power-ups but has no face of its own.
How do I hide the pet?
Click the pet to open its page and choose Hidden next to Show. The keyboard sounds keep playing. Choose On screen to bring it back.
What does it cost?
The pet comes with Teclo: $4.99 once, with a 1-day free trial and no subscription. Teclo needs macOS 13 or later.
