Teclo vs Haptyk

Updated

Haptyk and Teclo are both sold directly, not on the App Store, and both let you try before you pay. Haptyk's idea is force: it changes the sound with how hard you strike. Teclo's is range: sixteen packs and a pet that reacts to your speed.

The short answer

Force against speed

Haptyk says it reads typing force from the MacBook’s sensor and crossfades “between soft and slam”. Teclo reacts to something else: the keycap pet on your desktop measures your pace, gets happier as you speed up and powers up when you keep it.

Both have 16 packs. Teclo’s are synthesized and you can hear all of them on this site. For the rest of the field, see the guide to keyboard sound apps for Mac.

Questions

How much does Haptyk cost?

Haptyk's site lists a 3-day trial and USD 8 one-time.

Does Teclo change the sound with how hard I type?

No. Teclo varies each press slightly in pitch and level and places it in stereo by key position, but it does not read typing force. Its pet reacts to how fast you type.
